AFFORDABLE LIVING IN COSTA RICA
Once you are stable in Costa Rica, you can easily live within your budget. By stable I mean you have purchased your house- have all your furniture- car- and have settled in . The greatest expense is in the beginning when you are making the transition here and all the expenses that go with that . Afterwards you can live any lifestyle you want . If you have ample cash and want a high lifestyle – you can certainly do it and enjoy .If you are like the majority on a fixed income and need to budget – Costa Rica is very affordable. There is however, a methodology to affordability. Some cost savers are in place. Your property taxes are much lower here . Utilities are less and services such as cleaning, gardening , painting can be one or two dollars an hour. Eating out is your choice . You can go to the American places which are more expensive or eat at the local sodas ( small restaurants) for $2- $4. Most towns have Friday or Saturday open markets where you can purchase fruits, vegetables, eggs , flowers and other items very reasonable. Anything imported will be more but you learn to buy the local brands and save . By networking with others you learn where to buy- which mechanic to use – share a housekeeper- gardener- which restaurants to frequent for Italian- Costa Rican- Chinese and other. You develop a lifestyle that fits you and your budget . Once you are stable- enjoy the relaxed comfortable affordable lifestyle that is Costa Rica.
