THE STORY OF BRENDITA
My housekeeper is one of my closest friends.  Despite our cultural and age differences, we have bonded like family.

It concerned me one day when she was upset and depressed over an incident with her 8 year old daughter, Brendita.  She was born with crossed eyes, a feature that was drawing negative attention and causing headaches and vision problems.

As kids do, they began teasing Brendita unmercifully, causing depression and a drop in her grades that she already struggled with due to her poor and double vision.

Some members of their church as well as my family heard this story and agreed to pay for her operation.  In August of 2008, we began to visit pediatric opthamologist in San Jose.  After seeing several, we chose one from Clinica Biblica who is world renown for his work with children, Dr. Dario DeCalice. He operated on her Dec. 12th, 2008, and it was a quick surgery that healed quickly without the need for external stitches.

For Brendita and Rosa, it was a cherished experience.  Everyone in the Clinica Biblica made them feel comfortable.  The hospital itself is more like a hotel than a medical facility.  The restaurants in the both of food courts were so good that it was hard to make a choice.  They were able to explore the city from the heights of the 5th floor patio/ lounge.  For me, it was an even bigger pleasure since the operation and all of the expenses cost less than 1/5 of the price in the States.

It changed Brenda´s life.  She now wonders if the soccer goals that she scored while seeing double count as two points.  She can run, read, play and look people directly in the eye without frustration.  Her main goal is to learn English well and thank my family and their friends who helped her.  I thank Clinica Biblica and Dr. DeCalice for making this a pleasant and affordable experience for all of us.

Costa Rica Retirement Vacation Properties

I recently had another great experience with medical services here in Costa Rica and feel I moved to report it.

Many years ago, I had a large amount crown and bridge work done in north America. This included all my upper teeth and many of the lower. Three weeks ago, I had some discomfort, checked things out and found it was time to do the maintenance.

The short version is this. I had the whole upper row of teeth in my replaced with new crowns and bridges. This involved a major session that required cutting the old enamel out and saving the posts where  everything was anchored. The lower consisted of a very tricky root canal to save an anchor tooth which resulted the use of a specialist to do the work. I ended up with the nerve in tact and 50% of the tooth for the anchor. The there was a bridge made over 3 teeth  as well. All this took just a few sessions and cost me $3750.00.  (Probably $12,000 elsewhere from what I hear.)

The amazing and gratifying experience I had was that I found how skilled and committed this Dentist is to deliver perfection. The precision he strives for in the preparation and fitting for the crowns is unbelievable.  Admittedly. his own lab on the premises is a large asset as it precludes the temptation of letting something go rather than making another appointment with the patient and sending the work back to the lab for adjustment.  He works on it until it is right and right there on the spot.  These are the little things that we don’t often care about as we are so focused on price and how good the work will be.  When you are travelling long distance to do this kind of work, the savings disappear quickly if it is faulty.  More important is the fact that you don’t have to make a return trip because of a problem later on.  I can personally recommend this office for a wide range of dental service.
