Anniversary of a vision… a case for Costa Rica Retirement

Living in Costa Rica
By Christopher Howard M.A.
December 1st marks an historic date in Costa Rica’s history. On this day in 1948 President Jose Figueres abolished Costa Rica’s army. From that moment on Costa Rica has lived as a peaceful and democratic nation. Besides getting rid of the army this decision had another important effect on the country’s development. The money that was formerly spent on the military is now spent on education and universal health care and has had a tremendous effect on human development for the average Costa Rican. No other countries can make this claim!

This peaceful tradition continues to live. Costa Rica’s current president, Dr. Oscar Arias Sánchez was the recipient of the Noble Peace prize for being instrumental in bringing peace to the nations of Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua in the 1980s.

Furthermore, there is no threat of terrorism here because Costa Rica has NO enemies. This added stability is one of the primary factors that make our unique country  such a special place in the world and perfect for a peaceful retirement and investment. For these same reasons large multinational corporations like Citi Bank, GE, Walmart, Intel, Proctor Gamble, Firestone, Amazon.com and many others have invested millions of dollars here. I am sure this list will continue to grow as more big players and individuals realize the advantage of investing here.

Finally, this peaceful ambiance, excellent investment climate and unparalleled beauty are the reasons Costa Rica has become one top five emerging real estate markets in the world.

Footnote by Robert Shannon
I always ask Chris Howard to make a contribution here, but since he has his own Blog, it has now become necessary to be a little devious and pirate from

him when he won’t make the direct contribution. This is a very appropriate article and worthy of pirating and so I employ my 11th commandment (STEAL……………(all the good ideas you can)

I just want to add my thinking here as Costa Rica Retirement Vacation Properties not only touts the praises of Costa Rica as a destination for retirement but we like to justify our case for it.

Imagine a country in central America that has gone through the last 60 years and never got tainted with wars, unrest or communism.  Imagine further, what that has done to advance this country compared to others. Where can you find the health care quality, a middle class that is so important to a country and of course the education system that attracts all the major industry we have in the form of inter

national companies that employ our people and draw from our Universities. Our Lifestyle Property Tours are based on client’s lifestyle personal needs and benefits that can accrue to them in Costa Rica relative to that.  It is not often here that we cannot match up these important elements within our borders. And, we do this every single day.

It is easy to criticize our system, and certainly I have my criticisms, but when one looks at this kind of history it is hard to fault the overall gains here in Costa Rica.
This writer has been here for 17 years and has been overwhelmed by the consistent upgrading of all country functions that growth and success relies upon.
Please contact me at any time for further information on retiring in Costa Rica as we have some good ideas on how to proceed with your plans to retire and not let the 401k send you back to work.
